On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Intuit\u2019s QuickBooks unit published the 2026 AI Impact Report<\/strong> \u2014 the largest small-business AI study to date, built on 34,000+ survey responses from business owners<\/strong> and anonymized usage data from 5.3 million QuickBooks businesses across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia<\/strong>, in collaboration with economists at the University of Chicago<\/strong>. The headline numbers reset the baseline for what \u201cAI adoption\u201d actually looks like in small business today, and they should change how owners plan for the rest of 2026.<\/p>\n

The five numbers every operator should know.<\/strong> First, 68% of small businesses now use AI regularly<\/strong>, up from just 48% in July 2024<\/strong> \u2014 a 20-point jump in under two years. Second, 28% use AI daily<\/strong>. Third, 62% of AI-using SMBs have implemented it widely<\/strong> across their business \u2014 not just in one function. Fourth, 13% now describe AI as a \u201ccore component\u201d of their operations<\/strong>, meaning the business literally would not run the same without it.
