That framing is now wrong, and 2026 is the year the rest of the C-suite will be forced to notice. Industrial CEOs, hospital system COOs, real-estate operators, retailers, and mid-market manufacturers are all about to find power capacity, utility-rate volatility, and grid-interconnection queues sitting on their risk register next to cyber and tariffs. The cause is simple math: AI compute demand is on a 3-4\u00d7 trajectory through 2030, the grid is not, and the available capacity has to be allocated somehow. Third, evaluate whether on-site generation, PPA contracts, or co-location with a generation partner makes sense \u2014 what was an exotic energy strategy in 2022 is now table stakes for industrials in the top 25% of energy intensity. Fourth, put utility-rate sensitivity into your three-year financial model.
